After some over keen cleaning of the glue/ general detrius off our new kitchen worktop ( usual stuff not granite etc) with a green scourer i'm left with dull areas ie I have scoured the shine off. Wifey has spotted these in the daylight and nearly exploded! does anyone know how to replace the shine? Silicon spray?

Autoglym... might work. You've obviously made the surface rough so might polish out the scratches maybe?

The shine of laminate worktops is produced by a very thin skin of shiny stuff applied when the worktop is made. If you've gone through it then the worktop, and you, are fked. I very much doubt there is anything useful you can do except go over the whole worktop the same way, at least it will look consistent.

Apparently rubbing bull's semen into the surface can restore the shine. If you can't find bull's semen, try some of your own. The semen acts as a filler that turns clear and shiny when it hardens.

While you might have to put up with a frosty glare for a few weeks/months you now have a long term excuse for not cleaning. Good job that man.

unfortunately there are 4 ~ 5 areas of dullness, some near the lip of the worktop so covering them with kettles etc isn't an option. I am somewhat annoyed that I ended up having to clean down the tops of glue etc but don't feel in a position to go back to the installers now and complain

Exactly..Just put up with the 'Nothings' for a few weeks and you will never have to do it again!

To be a bit more helpful you can peel the laminate off and have it replaced.

You should change your wife. Any woman who sees the kitchen as a something to be maintained in a pristine manner is a wrongun - she should be in there making more dull areas by moving pans, plates and chopping boards about.

If it's just a cheap worktop you may be better off just getting a replacement section.

Find a local trade supplier, take the measurements in. It'll cost way less than trying various 'ointments'.

I replaced a 2.0m section (for a different reason); cost me £15.
