This 20 Billion we've (the taxpayer) stumped up to the RBS for its losses this year.... is that the end of it?

Or will they be making massive losses again next year? Only someone mentioned recently that the bank still has something like £270 billion worth of debt to service, so I'm wondering how they are going to post a profit in these hard times?

Will they be back for another 20 billion next year? And if the tax payer ends up effectivly owning the RBS, will we just be buying their massive debt?

I could be wrong but the Govt. haven't just given RBS 20bn in a big suitcase like if you gave a car dealer 20 grand in 50 pounds notes.

its a form of insurance against their bad assets.. be good if someone could clarify exactly how it works

Yes Noel.....

All too true.

The paralysis that has hit RBS due to the ongoing merger is staggering.

UBS failed to dump the DR toxic poo in the summer of 2007.

No clue on the ABN positions, maybe they had more fibre in them biggrin

Don't know, but lots happening there and lots of rumours. However, they are just that (except from the people who work there) and its a dangerous game to spread these. Discussion is a good thing, but there is an argument that says they need to resolve things, without the threat of constant rumour.

Not going to happen though - too much interest and owned by you and me!

Late at night when we are all asleep Alastair Darling sneaks around all our homes and raids our piggy banks. It all adds up.
