I was actually looking for the Mouchel depot next to it!The land is/was used for car boot sales so maybe that's a clue - not sure how though!
Should stop Russian troop glider though. In fact it's not far from Boxted, which was a USAAF base in WW2.

Brilliant! That explains the Mouchel depot. They'll take the aggregate for road building, the landowner gets some loot and the resulting hole joins onto the reservoir. Win/win/win.presumably some sort of surveying for mineral extraction works
