Given the number of pro/anti Scot threads that seem to come up these days, can we have a 'cross bloke in a checked skirt' smiley?

I know, it'll be a predictable response I fear. But the evidence is there in black and white. We Scots have always know this of course... biggrin

The banks are multi-nationals and have been for some time. Next...

And so does the Adam Smith Institute by all accounts

Scotlands Oil

"Then, of course, there is North Sea oil and gas, and "there is no doubt revenue from the natural resources found in waters off Scotland is being used fill the coffers of the UK exchequer." This is true, and does suggest a way forward. We could end the Barnett formula, perceived by many English taxpayers to be a misuse of their money. In its place we could make up the difference by giving Scotland a much larger share of the oil and gas revenue derived from off its shores.

Even without this Gabriel Stein has calculated for the Adam Smith Institute that if an independent Scotland pursued a low tax policy like that of the Republic of Ireland, the average Scottish household would soon be £8,000 better off. We think that an independent Scotland could and would be better off financially if it pursued the tax policy advocated by Alex Salmond. It might be time now to adjust the financial strings in a way that allows Scotland to raise and spend more of its own revenue.

I think the last sentence says it all.

There are underhand tactics in anything of this scale. Get over it.

Through an unusual social avenue (!), I've had some access to Alex Salmond recently. I genuiely believe he's a great man, really with only Scotland's interests at heart. A true Scottish patriot. And he'd do a FAR better job of leading the whole UK than Brown. I believe he'll lead our country to independence and we can be done with all that's rotten about the UK (England)...

Seriously cant come Quick enough just Make sure to have RBS back and all its baggage and repay us the bailout money as you leave.

And as we have had such a great Scots leader you can make up HIS losses to our economy as well while your at it.

Works for me!
You are deluded if you think that RBS was bailed out because it is a Scottish/UK institution. it was bailed to protect its investors/customers the majority of which are English.

I Am Deluded dont make me laugh The Scots Bankrupted their own economy (which brought them into the Union in the first place). Fast Forward a few. Worst Victims of this mess SCOTTISH financial Instituations with Oversight by A Scots Chancellor then a Scots Primeminister and several Scots Cabinet ministers who collectivly bks our economy and then have the temerity to tell us how much better off they would have been on their own!

Dont make me laugh, its time you lot got rid of the National chip on your shoulders and get on with it.

Frankly if what we see now is the total Scots contribution to modern Britain then off you go and dont let the door hit you on the way out smile

Cheers
No you are deluded' going by the twaddle you have written up there is to go by.
Granted the "Darien Scheme" cost us enough go to bed with a we but the we didnt come out of the "South Sea Bubble" smelling of roses either.
Do you think the Union was to bail Scotland out... pull your heid out of the cheeks of your airse man

As for Scots in Westminster.. when are the English going to take responibility for your own actions instead of crying "the big bad scotsman did it."
There is a Labour Govt in power, voted in mostly by the English. End of story but no its not the english they didnt vote for Tony.... well some fecker did

It must be terrible to be English and have to accept that there's no way to opt out of the current pile of ste that is the UK. The reaction seems to be to be jealous of Scotland and bh and whine about the UK's problems being somehow Scottish in origin. And then, when desparation really takes hold, to just start become offensive and beligerant to anything remotely to do with Scotland, keeping up the fantasy that England is in some phantom way in a position to be superior! We Scots are very lucky to have the SNP...
