Any doctors in the house ?
Discussion
had a sore throat all this week.... dont think i've ever had one before & never reliased how painful it can be esp. at night
but anyway, it seems to be not as raw and inflamed anymore but still hurting one side and i took a look and i have yellow/white patches/blisters there now... (presumably dead white cells).
should i be going to doctors to get antibiotics or just let it ride ?
cheers

The symptoms you described sound exactly like mine when I had a severe case of glandular fever at Uni. Struggled to breathe, felt weak as a kitten, near impossible to swallow and my tonsils looked like red golf balls with white/yellow divets.
Go see your GP, get them to take a blood and urine sample and some anti inflammatory meds. Then wait and see...

If I tell you how to treat it does that mean you will stop posting so many threads on PH?
OK, tonsilitis or glandular fever, does your neck hurt? are your glands up? do you feel very tired?
Aspirin gargled three times a day should sort it after a few days
Not a doc but have had this a few times

Sounds downright unpleasant and I don't think people should take the piss.
Have you been abroad recently? or been in close contact with anybody who has recently returned from sub-saharan Africa? Reson why I ask is it sounds like the early stages of that disease where your bones go soft and you end up as a sort of big blob that has to be kept in a tank like a plastic bath ( a bed is no good because you would sort of ooze out of it). I think it's curable though, after a fashion.

Sounds like a viral sore throat. the yellow/white patches are probably exudates, are your tonsils enlarged? you usually find these exudates on top of the tonsils. Most cases of tonsilittis are virall but in a few cases can be bacterial which may require antibiotics. Viral infections on the other hand do not require antibiotics and are self limiting and will get better without much intervention . If they're not as inflammed as before my guess is it's probably on its way out. Try gargling with some dissolved aspirin (if not allergic to this) or salty water. Paracetamol will help with any fever. Just watch out for any worsening symptoms (headache, neck stiffness, non-blanching rashes, swelling on one side..which could represent a peritonsillar abscess) in which case you should see a doctor.but anyway, it seems to be not as raw and inflamed anymore but still hurting one side and i took a look and i have yellow/white patches/blisters there now... Despite public perception, antibiotics are not indicated for most sore throats/tonsilittis and symptomatic treatment with plenty of fluids, paracetamol and gargling will do the trick.
