Off to Copenhagen for a week with work, but they are sending me out there on my tod.

Got a few spare days with no work, so looking for something decent to do!

Any recommendations? Sensible ones....

Tivoli Gardens are worth a look (not sure about them this time of year however)...

Don't be tempted to go and see the Little Mermaid statue, it's rubbish and in a very industrial context.

Dunno if you like your museums/art but their National (Nationalmuseet) is one of the best I've ever visited. Absolutely fantastic and you wouldn't even be able to see it all in a day. You then have the counterpart National Gallery (Kunst Museet or something like that), which again is ace. There's also a Carlsberg museum that isn't beer related but is art, because the founder/owner (or whoever) built up a large collection. Very impressive. I think there's one showing Danish furniture and similar lurking somewhere, I vaguely recall seeing Jacobsen stuff etc.

Tivoli Gardens is a stock answer but good and well worth a visit. You've got the usual big city stuff too: cracking symphony hall, fantastic shops, public architecture (it's well worth getting 'lost'), theatre, etc. Restaurants are pricey but really good. For some reason me and my friends ditched all that stuff of an evening and felt that the best thing in the world was Carlsberg in plastic bottles - they bounce!

Of course, you could always get on a train and go and visit Malmo too. Worth it depending on how long you've got. Sorry to go all Clarkson but it's a great bridge, a lovely, comfortable journey and Malmo's pretty cool. That way you can also say you had time to visit Sweden.

However...

My favourite place in Denmark, and one of the best places I've ever visited, is Roskilde, which isn't a very long train ride away. The medieval of capital Denmark is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and me and my mates spent hours just sitting next to the natural fjord admiring the place. It's amazing and feels almost ethereal. I loved it.

I am told by my best mate who is in the merchant navy that they have some of the most gorgeous women in the world.
And he has been every where so he should know a thing or two.

The Glyptotek.

There's a little gem of a motor museum but can't remember where it is.

Bus tour is worthwhile.

Lunch in Nyhavn.

I don't think the Tivoli will be open.

Christiania is st - give it a miss.

Carlsberg brewery is mediocre and a bugger to get to.

Can't remember the name but there's a tower with a spiral ramp (as opposed to stairs) which has cracking views from the top (only costs a few Euros).

Near there, a walking (pedestrian) street with some interesting shops and some nice cafés.

Enjoy,

Eric smile

Depends what you're after, but I have to disagree with the "dull" response. I lived there for a year, and the nightlife is fantastic. Copenhagen is a fantastic city. The people are friendly, streets clean (except perhaps Strøget after a Friday/Saturday night), and there is no trouble at all. Doesn't matter if you don't speak Danish.

Don't go to any pubs in tourist areas, they are full of boring tourists. You just need to head a street or two off of Strøget to find the pubs the locals go to. I recommend Dropp Inn for live music, used to be my local.

It's a very old City so lots of history, it's worth having a look around. Frederiksberg is full of good cafes and bars, as is Østerbro. The women are generally fit as hell, but friendly with it.

As LongLiveTazio said, Roskilde is also worth the train journey, you can also get to Malmø and Helsingborg (in Sweden) quite easily from Hovedbanegården and it's not expensive.

Tivoli is currently closed, doesn't open again until April.

Where are you staying?

ETA, not Østergade, Østerbro wink

I went a couple of years ago with a works trip.

The highlight for me (and I shouldn't have done it, a few of us got major bkings from the staff), was look in the Opera House.

They were rehearsing (which is why we got the rocket), but the auditorium took my breath away. If I was a performer, I'd give my right nut to play there.

I thought Copenhagen was dull too I'm afraid. Maybe I went to the wrong places.

They like Heavy Rock. A lot. Wear your 80's drainpipes and white baseball boots and you'll feel right at home.

Lunch in Nyhavn. yep definitely worthwhile

Christiania is st - give it a miss. but if you don't go you won't really know, it was st though

Carlsberg brewery is mediocre and a bugger to get to. Don't recall it being that bad to get to, did we not get a bus there and back ? The horses were nice.

Someone else said don't bother with the little mermaid, but I thought it was a must do, it is not very impressive, but it is a symbol of the city.

Fly in, take a bus tour around the interesting bits, spend 10 minutes wandering around the 4 sq feet of historic centre and then get back to the airport as soon as possible. The cab journey from the airport sums up just what a massively over-rated and pointless part of Europe this city is.

Someone mentioned that the mermaid is a bit crap but it is sadly one of the greatest things to see in this pointless parts of the world.

The sole reason to drive a 4x4 is to speed up global warming and give Poseidon a long over due birthday presentof Copenhagen.

Its fantastic for a break in my opinion, it really depends who you go with.

My friend lives out there in a place called Peter Bangs Vej! LOL! I bet he does...

But go around the docks (new harbour), there are great pubs and bars there, with a wide selection of beers. But beware, it's a mini red light district, so be cautious of some of the bars you go into.
A great place to go for live music is "VEGA!" It's a massive club in the centre of town.

If you're not into that that kind of stuff, Tivoli is good. Carlsberg brewery is rubbish, but there are some nice castles, museums and art galleries too.

Watch out though, it's a pretty expensive city. And yes, the women are amazing. Jaw dropping.

I think there's only one strip club on Nyhavn. Istedgade is the red light district, near the station.
