Benjamin Franklin

Seemingly, a very interesting chap and no wonder he is the face of the $100 bill.
From the quotes below, I’m guessing Brown, Blair and Bush have never heard of him.
This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins.
He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty.
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
Whatever is begun in anger ends in shame.
The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.

This is the part many people don't seem to realize.

Probably best known for his kite flying in thunder storms to establish lightning was electrical energy.Although it is questionable that he actually did it.
Not a survivable experiment IMO.
Credited with the theory.

Seriously?
- but i haven't heard his name mentioned in years, then twice in the same year (here and said film). He was a sure fire bet for good quotes. "There is noothing as certain as death and taxes" was another one of his - although he may have been inspired by a broadly similar quote atributed to Daniel Defoe.
As a reputed member of the Hellfire Club, he was clearly a PH'er of his day. Possibly their equivalent of Flemke. Two of my favourite quotes were also attributed to him, but have since been pretty much attributed to other people.
The first is "For evil to triumph, it is only necessary for good men to do nothing". The second is "It is not how you fall down that counts, but the manner in which you pick yourself up". They really >should< have been his.
