Does it annoy anyone else being called mate? In general I’m fine with it. I use it in fact where appropriate. However today in the Bank I found myself complaining about a toe rag that insisted on calling me mate at every opportunity whilst I went about my business, I found it infuriating. 'ello mate, anyfing else mate, have a nice one mate etc etc

I've over looked being called 'bruv' in a newsagent and 'geez' in ASDA although I left both shops with an eye twitching!

Perhaps its my age (26) and I fit into that demographic where it's fine to be called mate/geez/ bruv, however it's starting to boil my piss! Anyone else annoyed by this, or am I just a miserable sod!

+1,

I call just about everybody "mate/fella/pal". It's just a harmless colloqualism. It's usually meant to infer a kinship or equality.

It might just be my working class upbringing shining through, but I've never had a problem with it. Although I do admit it can get taken too far and annoy the ste out of me if someone uses it for every other word.

Theres a guy at work that calls everyone 'dude'.... he's middle ages too makes me cringe.

Me and my mates have taken to call each other 'Jeff' in stead of 'mate' hence the user name... works well for us ;-)

'Alright Jeff hows it going' ... to a guy called Andy always brings a smile

I spoke to a women at the front desk and told her that a member of her team should conduct himself in a more proffesional manor. she asked me what the problem was, I told her. she asked a name. I didn't give I just said I don't know, he was swigging a can of red bull. She responded with a description.

You have "grump old sod syndrome". Relax, its genetic, everyone gets it. It's worse when someone who you dont want to know, calls you mate. Its a bit like walking into dogst and there's no grass to wipe it off on. You feel abused.

Surely, anyone with such misplaced superiority should know how to spell professional?
