Ok after weeks of colleagues being ill from a virus I have finally become infected. Now it's only a bloody cold but the point is I don't see why I now have to suffer because other people don't take the time off when they were obviously ill. I'm taking the day off, but can any of the PH faithful advise if the company I work for has failed in some way if me and my family are all getting sick because of what I have had to put up with for the past two weeks?

Do you work in the public sector ?You would in no way be able to prove causation. So no, I don't see any redress. If you got some serious condition which was fatal/near fatal and the company were on notice of the risk (let's say stress as that is a common one), then that may be a different matter. But a cold? No chance.
In any event, it would be the end of your working career I imagine to attempt to do so. Do you get paid for your sick days? IF so, take some off yourself to recover?
I agree with you that people ought to stay at home if they are infected (I am a bit of a hypocrite here, because I tend to go in to work no matter what), however many companies don't like that sort of thing and prefer staff to attend unless dead. I believe at my old bank, death was only an excuse for non-attendance if the company had a weeks notice of your impending demise.....................

Whilst I'm no Health and Safety guru, I do know that you as an employee have an obligation to look after your own health and safety.
Knowing that colleagues were ill, and therefore potentially infectious, did you complete a health and safety risk assessment?
Having done so , what control measures did you implement?
Did you for instance wear PPE such as a mask, or gloves?
Did you use an anti bacterial gel hand wash?
Did you do anything at all to negate the risk that you had identified ?
