Although it looks absolutely identical but with a wire, so either Microsoft have a case for breach of patent or they designed/produced them for the army, or of course the one in the advert isnt representative of the one used in reality.

The Military Windows debate has already been done folks...there was huge hissy fits when the Navy said they were using it on Type 45.
As it is, the X-box provides a half decent COTS solution. Its only the physical control mechanism, not the software. The control loop architecture will be developed for the aplication and not just some software Microsoft knocked up for them as an Easter Egg in CoD

I was surprised to see it because, as an interface, it seems a perfect solution. it kid of makes sense to use a xbox controller thought doesn't it- it would be fair to assume that MX spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on ergonomics, making sure that the controller was comfy to use for hours upon hours of constant use, as well making sure you could control alot of functions at the same time.
Whats the point of the MOD coming along and re-inventing the wheel?
I reckon it shows efficiency and intelligence to use a product which is already developed and works better than anything the MOD will produce on a limited budget!

Indeed, when we were design Astute the PS and Xbox control conventions were taken into account in our Target Audience Descriptions.As it is, the X-box provides a half decent COTS solution. From a Human Factors perspective, console controllers have a an almost Darwinian evolutionary progression, due to the sheer numbers of designs and user testers around the globe. They'll also be a considerably cheaper than a milspec bespoke controller.

War isnt an Xbox game, you cant restart, you cant put cheats in, and you certainly cant just turn it off, you can play live though, and you might even get a RROD on your person

Yeah, shame it's a UAV drone.I occasionally use the Xbox controller for games on my PC either my wired controller as I think you need to do something special with the wireless ones. They plug straight in as microsoft make it all. Also good that I can multimedia my TV & movies from my PC through my Xbox.
