Are they celbrating the birth of the Spitfire which first flew from that airfield in 1936? It would be an appropriate thing for them to celebrate as it helped guarantee their freedom to protest.

Southampton is not a busy airport. An extra million passengers a year will not make it a busy airport. Any airport which requires about an 800m backtrack for either inbounds or outbounds, depending on the wind direction, won't become that busy.
