How much do tree surgeons cost?

I need to get about 6 trees pruned in my garden. Each about 30 foot high - they need topped about 6/10 feet taken off and general pruning. As a former flat dweller I have no idea how much this will cost.

Any ideas on ballpark figures??

My dad had an Oak taken down a few years back. Pretty big though. It had split in high winds and was resting against power lines. The Lecky board paid for it, but would have been about £700, but as said, that was taking it down.

We had a 80-100ft conifer and did it ourselves with rope and chainsaw, although, not always conforming to all H&S directives.

I've no idea as I've never bought one. As for how much they charge, that very much depends on the job itself.
No-one will give you a solid quote without seeing the job first so my advice is to ring a few and get them round to give you a price.

Yes, I was going to do it, but I couldn't determine how far they would fall.

After seeing how much debris had to be removed, I'm glad I didn't try.

Quite a lot IIRC. When we had a large apple tree done it cost about £100+

Porbably between 500 - 1000 for that kind of work depening on how dense the tree's are, you would not believe how expensive it is to get rid of the waste wood / branches etc. Also how quickly do you want it done and other things will vary the price depending on the company.

If what you are cutting is only 20ft up, get a telescopic chainsaw type pruner,and do it yourself with a decent ladder/assistant.Pretty hard to hurt yourself with one unless you really are demented.
