Woman jumped in front of my train doing 75mph today
Discussion
Strange day....
Back from London, a woman decided she'd jump in front of the train I was on, travelling at 75 mph, and exploded into pieces, also smashing the front of the train up, breaking the connecting line to the power rail causing it to short - leaving us stranded for 3.5 hrs without power, or a way to get out, with tracks either side of us, while the poor paramedic and police had to go around and pick up all her pieces. Wasn't very nice to see a transparent bag of body bits walk past our window either...
Speaking to another train driver who got on as a backup, told us the same train had been hit the week previous.
Caused complete chaos in London today, coming back from Earls court took 6 hours to get to Brighton...
You hear about it on the news, but to be on a train when that happens..... is a bit surreal!
Just feel sorry for any family she may have had.
And to the Asian guy behind us who was on his phone: "innit mate, wikid, phat tunes mate, you won't believe this but i only had one egg today for breakfast and ate nuffink since, like... init, well hungry, buy me some fish and chips, phat." for over 2 hours straight, to every person on his phone book, nearly everyone on the train was about to kill you, it was lucky your phone ran out of battery!!!!!!!!

Why can't people just go to a hotel and take sleeping pills. I think it's incredibly selfish to cause all that distress to the poor driver, passengers and onlookers.
Problem is to be in that state means you aren't mentally stable, and when you aren't mentally stable you don't think of things like that
The driver told us that it's usually women that jump too, not men.

Someone just back from Spain related the story of a considerate bod from South America.Seems he checked out of the hotel, paid his bill, left his bags in reception, climbed onto the roof and jumped off.
heard briefly on the local news earlier that a man was stood on a train platform, waited for the train to come past and lent forward placing his head in the line of the on-coming train.
seems maybe a marriage / relationship problems as his wife was found dead in their home shortly after.

There is a high road bridge over a dual-carriageway near here where some unfortunates have chosen to end it all so 'they' are going to fit railings to stop any future attempts. The more this dealing with symptoms rather than causes goes on the more people are going to find that the railway is the only place left where they can go to end it all.
I was once regailed with a story of someone stepping off the platform at Retford into the path of the oncoming HST. As a non-stop service between London KX and York, it was fairly shifting at that point. Said person promptly scattered themselves over a wide area, causing a good few days of rigorous hosing down of awnings / platforms.
Not nice.

Yea - the backup driver told us a story of a train doing 100mph through Woking station (why do they go that fast?), a woman jumped, but hit the windscreen, making a person shape dent in the screen, bouncing off again, and landing on the platform, wriggling around, and dying a few minutes later, in front of hundreds of commuters at 8am.Not nice.
