I am thinking about adding this function to our company website. However before I go ahead and say yes to the designer I wanted to hear people's thoughts on the idea.

I'll try it once. If it doesn't work, you'll lose my business.

If someonme is on your site and they are serious surely THEY will call YOU? Will you call/reply in a timely manner or will they be able to request a call back window?

We have this. Day and time to be called back. They are always out.

Unless you can ensure to call back in the next 5 mins you're going to get a hiding for nothing.

Hi Dave...

One of the options that would be on this "call me back" window would be a box to state what time you would like to be called back on.

fks me off when you send a tentative 'character finding out' email to a company who specifically have 'EMAIL' as a Contact option only to be ignored.

You just failed and lost my business.

Once I have received that first step then I will Call or get the Call Back.

I am just a busy as 'you' and a brief email, even if only to ask me to Call, is worth its weight.

Would rather use a live chat. I never use the call me back options as the trust is gone, and for me I won't use one as unfortunately too many companies never call you back and I will never trust it.

That one is very good - I use it for Virgin Broadband...

Why not have a call me back which will back within 30 mins? Then have the option if they are not available for the next 30 mins then e-mail.

However, it may be more helpful to know about the business and the idea to a degree, as in some cases (let's say a plumbing emergency number) if you don't get an instant response then you will be off to the next company on the list...

Waste of time, in my view - if someone is online then they either want the answer available on the website, or they want to e-mail their query. If they want to call, they'll call you. I hate waiting to be called back - if it's not virtually instant, I'll be in a bad mood.

Which is where live chat comes in.

good idea in principle, key is the execution

used callback a couple of times recently and 5-10 minutes delay was fine (BG was one of them I think) and saved him holding for ages

this was an account query rather than anything urgent though

What age range is this site targeted at, then? If it's for 20-somethings, fine.
