Google Satellite & My Home/Neighborhood

I completely forgot all about this topic, I have been wanting to get PH's opinion on the matter.
When my Grandfather was alive 2 years ago Him and I were talking about the time we went to Switzerland to visit an old friend of his he had became very close with during the war. My grandfather was 93 at the time of this conversation and I know he always wanted to go back but never would be able to due to his immobility and age. So I thought why not download Google Earth and plug the cooridinates in and show him where we were. He was always amazed by the computer and the internet and at one time I taught him how to use the net. I got him an email and he corresponded daily with family and the friend from Switzlerand, for that he was very gracious (damn I miss him, he was pretty much the only person I ever truly admired and looked up to
)
Anyhow, im getting off track. I was having so much fun with the Satellite that I decided to punch in our home address and see what happens. Well, I was shocked to say the least. There were CLEAR pictures of my House (you can go to street level and move up and down my street!!) and VERY CLEAR pics of my cars and their tag numbers, but more shockingly you could see inside my neighbors windows!!
Personally I was pissed off about it. I mean I know the likelihood of any consequences of such a thing are low to none but I found it to be an invasion of my personal space. maybe I dont want people seeing all the cars I have, or maybe my neighborhood would have liked to have known when they might be taking screen shots of our houses! What if my neighbor was naked or something at the exact moment they took pics
Dont you think we should have been notified of such a thing? Hmmmm, maybe I can sue them and become a millionaire. thats just what we need right now isnt it, a frivolous law suit?

You're having a laugh right? Just what have they shown that anybody walking or driving along your street cannot see for themselves? If you don't want people to see all the cars that you have maybe you should park them under cover or somewhere else they cannot be seen. You're having a laugh right? Just what have they shown that anybody walking or driving along your street cannot see for themselves? If you don't want people to see all the cars that you have maybe you should park them under cover or somewhere else they cannot be seen. So you're saying Google should have sent out notification letters to the entire population of the world be launching the programme?el stovey said:

It could be divided into letters and dispersed individually through towns like they do when they are going to be working on a water line or something, we all get letters saying when and for how long etc, or maybe on the local news, give a heads up to everyone if you see a crew with cameras snapping photos of your house dont be alarmed.Again, I dont really care I am just making conversation, but it did bother me a little.

So why doesn't it bother you that the satellite can see right into your back yard. After all, you may have been sunbathing b
k naked or burying a body under the patio.Maybe they should notify you every time the satellite passes overhead?

Perhaps if everyone knew when the photos were going to be taken, weirdos would protest or try to flash their bits at them.
