Arrrrrgggghhhhhh...... I've got gout!
Discussion
Title explains it all really, im in bloody agony...!!
Had to come from work today cos my foot was killing me and had swollen up, at first I thought that I'd broke my toe or summat playin footy last night, but after getting x-rayed at A&E found out it is gout!
Im only 24, and thought that this pleasure was reserved for the, ahem, older gent! Just wandering if anyone else on here gets it and if so whats the best prevention / cures..? (Prays that not 'everyone' tells me to cut down on the beer!!)

Thats the thing, dont really eat much red meat at all, not (excessively!!) overweight, and generally pretty fit and healthy on the whole! Do hammer the beer at weekends though, which Im guessing doesnt help...! Apparently it's hereditary too, some people much more prone to it than others.
Drink lots of water and avoid purine rich foods, thats pretty much all you can do. Docs can give you a steroid injection too, not sure how effective they are though. I have it in my second toe on my right foot. Woke up one morning and couldnt move my toe without screaming in agony, wasnt able to walk on it.
I thought I'd broken it in the night somehow, but no, twas gout.
I'm 27

Sh*t the bed! This doesn't sound good! Got to make an appointment with the doc when this 'attack' has passed and guess he'll run some tests etc.
Other than the beer, seriously dont know what elsewould be causing it!

Purine-Rich Food Increases the Risk of Gout
Purine is found in many a lot of food - however some kinds have more purine than others. Gout sufferers are advised to avoid or eat only in moderation food that have high purine and protein contents.
Food that are high in purines include:
* Red meat
* Animal organs, such as liver, kidney, brain
* Other meat, such as bacon, veal, venison, and turkey
* Fish, especially mackerel, herring, sardines, codfish, trout, haddock, and anchovies
* Shellfish, such as scallops and mussels
Food that have medium levels of purines include:
* Shellfish, such as lobster, shrimp, crab, and oysters
* Certain vegetables, such as asparagus, mushroom, and spinach
* Legumes, such as kidney beans and lima beans
Alcohol Can Also Cause Gout
The relationship between gout and alcohol has been appreciated since the 1800s. It is thought that alcohol interferes with the body's ability to remove uric acid, and thus cause its level in the body to increase.
Beer also seems to be worse than wine or spirit, since it has a higher purine content.
water is your best pal!! i am convinced its all down to dehydration, hence the alchohol link, allopurinol is probaly what your doc will advise, after a blood test,i have never bothered with these as they dont seem to prevent it,you are supposed to take 1 daily.i take ARCOXIA 120mg when it gets bad, this seems to shift it
Oh Man
Go to the Docs, get some indomethicin (sp), rest on settee with foot in air - do not let anything come into contact with said foot. 24hrs you'll be fine. You have my sympathy.(a regular sufferer)
If it's any consolation a female neighbour of mine had it a couple of months ago and declared the pain worse than childbirth!
