Anyone had a Tonsillectomy?

Had mine out in my 20's after developing a very nasty 'quincy abcese'
Seriously not good - i have clear memories of waking up earlier than expected in Intesive care unit with various tubes still down the throat and an overwhelming sense of panic..........
I still remember the nurses hitting the alarm and soon after a doctor charging towards me with a VERY large needle to knock me back out!!
Christ i'm breaking out in a cold sweat just thinking about it, thanks for reminding me, no sleep tonight for me!

I would doubt its normal, i had a very nasty swelling that was closing my throat and if i remember correctly i had a large amount of bleeding.I'm doomed
Remembering this was 20 years ago, i'm sure things have progressed well.
No guarantees given if its not good don't blame me!
Had my tonsils out back in 1997 hurt like hell, worst thing ever. They say worse in Adults, believe it. However best thing to have done when you get tonsilitus every month or two. Wouldn't change my decision for two weeks worth of pain having them removed. Good luck to anyone having the op. 
She's just woken up with terrible pain and I've had to phone the Ward to get some stronger pain killers prescribed as they're just not strong enough.
Good luck to those who are having the operation. They say the pain gets worse between 5 - 7 days post-op due to the healing process. We are now on day 5 and certainly is the case. Hence me writing this at 6:08am on a Saturday flaming morning!!

it was the hot summer of 76 was out in the garden ........mum rushed ne into the bath and dad threw me in the front seat of his Rover p5 coupe .......fantastic tearing up the bypass at 105 mph !!
I remember having lots of ice cream post op if that helps , good thing is I hardly ever get a sore throat now
My sister had it done when she was about 20, she was working with children and struggling horrendously with one flare up after another! The doctors seemed reluctant to start with due to her age but they agreed in the end. Best thing she did, however she did struggle in the early recovery days. They gave her strong pain killers but they were size of a decent bulllet!! Consequently she struggled to take those, I think she was able to get dissolvable alternative, they just tasted fowl! Not great gagging when you've just had your tonsils out. This was only for a few days and even though she was warned re: bleeding she never suffered this.
I had mine (along with adenoids) out when I was about 17. After about a week or so of complaining of a really sore throat(!) after the op with lots of minor bleeding I finally piled into a bag of crisps and promptly haemorrhaged.
I lost about 2 1/2 pints of blood, thankfully I'd had the presence of mind to (half) pass out with a bowl to catch the worst of it so didn't ruin the carpet!
There can be complications having them done later so be cautious. Oh and the buggers dislocated my jaw whilst doing the op as well and so they've managed to engineer in a mighty "click" now and again!
Still despite all of the above I'd do it again as I've not had a single sore throat since!

Had a tonsillectomy and a septoplasty (straightening of the inner cartilage in the nose) at the same time last January.
Yes it hurt for a week or two, but once it wears off, no problem.
Also havn't suffered with more than a minor cold for the past 12 months, while everyone around me has had coughs & colds and caught the nasty flue bug that went around. I like to think it's connected.
