Right then, you are sitting in the De Lorean, winding it up to the required 88mph, which year do you dial in and why?

Not forgetting 5-10 years into the future to see what price banking shares are, then popping back to now and buying a few million penny shares.

"where we're going we don't need roads"

I'd go simply go forward a month, get all the lottery numbers, head back and live the high life.

Edited to add:

Oh yeah and I would go back to last August and assassinate our idiot prime minister while I had the perfect aliby of being abroad.

Go forward to see next weeks euromillions numbers, then go see what the world is like in about 500 years and decide what time point in history I want to actually live in.

1968 to spend some time with my Grandfather before he became ill, and get him to re-write his will so it wasn't invalid!

Then I'd leave my Dad a message to buy Microsoft shares, not sell his flat, and to buy his Dad's house hehe

I wouldn't need to do anything else biggrin

Its all very well thinking you can cash in, but any change you make will modify any future events. So you have to be careful otherwise the future you think you are planning for doesnt happen.

And you accidently step on a butterfly or something. No future that you recognise to go back to.

Maybe butterfies hadn't evolved yet?

The butterfly paradox applies to any backwards time-travel - although the ramifications for future events of even the slightest alteration gets more and more serious the further back you go..

12th July 1987, Silverstone, for the GP.

Just to watch Mansell suck it to Piquet for real, instead of on video...
