Being in the middle of the worst recession since forever what should we expect from companies that we want to give buisness to? Should we expect them to lick our arses and offer 70% of everything or to go about buisness as usual and hope to get custom that way?

I called up Sky to cancel all our extra packages (movies & sport) which we barely watched as well as the HD subscription and they accepted it without even a murmur, I would normally expect at least a token '£10 off for three months' but there was nothing at all offered, even when I asked cheekily for half price HD there was no budging on this.

Now I hadn't called up with any expectation of getting a 'freebie' but I would of thought that in this current climate with people cancelling what they can they would be better with an extra fiver coming in than nothing at all.

It totally depends on the person you get in the call centre and not the business as a whole. If the guy answering the phone couldn't give a fk then you're not going to be getting any deals.

I really doubt sky will be hurting all that much, the cost of a sky package isn't that great in relation to other services. Also most people who are cutting back will simply stay at home and watch the TV. Plus the great unwashed on benefits will happily fork over our their money to the TV Gods.

Thats because sky are reporting so many new customers due to the recession.
Apparently people are deciding to stay in with a few cans or cook for themselves thereby deciding that tv is now important.
I can't remember which daily newspaper the report was in but think the figure was 30% up on last year, so now they can tell people to feck right off
