my friend got ill on Friday.......no warning..........

symptoms are throwing up constantly, and being very ill, weak, and not really able to stand or indeed talk most of the time.

Now - i've seen this sort of thing before - but not for so long.......its now Monday a.m - and although the symptoms eased last night for a couple of hours - they were up over night, and throwing up.

Now then - my friend can't even keep down water, never mind the dry toast etc that has been tried.....

Should I be concerned? They assure me that they are fine - and have a doctor's appointment tomorrow - but not having any food or holding down any water since Friday can't be good?

any ideas?

Tell her to drink the water anyway as some will stay down. Add diarolyte to it if possible as she will be losing electrolytes. Other than that hopefully she'll be OK but if she gets a fever or anything else, then another call to the doc would be in order. By the way, I'm not medically qualified, so this isn't gospel.

Could be be something nasty like compylobactor... My ex father in law had it years ago (caused by dodgy egg sandwich in cafe)... Nothing stayed down, including water, eventually so dehydrated he had to go to hospital and be put on a drip.. A good dose of antibiotics fixes it...

Felt sorry for the nurse that had to take the various samples required for diagnosisvomit

Sounds exactly like the symptoms I had when I got salmonella poisoning, lasted about 4 days, had to go on a drip, lost a stone, coupled with bad stomach cramps as well.

Unless it's who I think it is, I can't imagine you being concerned enough to...

a) Spend that much time around someone who's chundering and unpleasant
b) Be concerned enough to post on PH about it
and c) Not take the piss relentlessly until they required hospitalisation

hehe
