Mattress warranties - a waste of time?

We bought a memory foam mattress from one of the big high street stores just over a year ago. It's got a 5 year warranty.
We were (wrongly) explicitly told by the salesmean not to rotate or flip it. After 6 months, we rotated it as we were both getting back-ache. All OK for a few months, then back-aches returned. Another turn, and the same happened. We called their customer service, and they sent someone out to have a look. He spent no more than 5 minutes looking it over, including lying on it for 1 minute, and concluded that there were no manufacturing defects, and the mattress has probably "settled" in the year we've had it.
Now isn't that a great get-out. They may as well put a 10 or 15 year warranty on it, as it'll make no difference.
So I know it's all a personal comfort thing with mattresses, but the point is that the mattress that we thought was the bees-knees in the showroom changed to such an extent in 6-12 months that it's no-longer the same comfort as the mattress we bought.
So people, how do you buy a new mattress based on how it's going to feel in 12 months time? The people at Dreams couldn't tell me.

lol, OT but this thread reminds of when we had to complain about our new mattress, went into the shop with my heavily pregnnat wife to complain about springs sticking out of it. You coud just tell by the look he gave that he was thinking" well i'm not f

) Back OT-get onto CS and complain, so some dhead came out & lay on it for 10 mins and concluded it was fine? Please.......

Please.......same thing happens with Ikea mattresses, they are under warranty, but no matter how light the person is that lays on them, after a few months you end up with a person sized indent in them.... then you need to pay for them to go back and be inspected, only to be told... 'sorry sir thats normal' and you get left with a mattress with a nice indent in it meaning I now have to throw it away and get a new one

Buy a decent quality futon.Futons are for students who need to pack up their things into small portable units and get it into the back of a volvo estate.
To the OP, it depends on the make, hypnos have never let me down.

Top of the range futon mattress will cost as much as normal mattresses. I just went looking at normal beds and they all reminded me of old people for some reason, maybe you don't need the hardness but I intend to use futons for many more years of hard pounding.

t you get from Dreams for £99 Dreams are a nightmare for warranty claims. My 4 year old niece chose her new bed from Dreams and when it got delivered was assembled correctly by my Bro in-law. After a month it broke and my niece is very small. The 'salesman' came out and asked my niece if she could show him what she does when she gets in bed (which my sister thought was puzzling), which she did.
Lo and behold it was my nieces fault. Her huge frame was the cause as the bed in question was not designed to be 'sat on' WTF!!!! As she sat on her bed before she got into to it to make sure her dolls were in the right place it had caused the crack in the frame.
They have no intention of honouring claims.
