Them Coinstar machines

So the Mrs wants to chuck a giant-sized jar of shrapnel into one of these machines. But I'm thinking of the 7% cut that the machine takes and am tempted to count them all up, put them into bags and take them to the bank.
Am I too tight?
Yes, chuck them in and stop whining, would you expect to use a service for free anywhere else??Am I too tight?
7% is reasonable IMO
Take out the £1 coins though.
I've used these machines before and to be honest I couldn't be bothered sitting counting out and bagging all the change. I don't suppose its a big deal but I already classed that change/smush as lost money, so when I took my bucket of change, got my receipt, then got handed a bunch of 20's, I was pleasantly surprised!
Totally up to you really.

Count it.
Used to refurb sainsburys and tesco, even the folk from coinstar said they were blindingly inaccurate and it was nearer 20%. face it, if you are going to sling it through one of these, you ain't going to count it first are you

I won't be using one for my change then! Thieving barstewards! My OH got me a "novelty" coin counter/sorter for one christmas. The poor thing was running non stop for about a week sorting through years of loose change from myself, vet charity, cars, couches, van etc.
Bagged everything up and took it into nationwide, netted over 300 quid for the vet school and 211 quid from my own stash!
Its crazy how quick the pennies add up!
As for coinstar machine? if you have buckets and buckets worth of change I'd do it. Only reason I took mine to the bank was for the fact I had a sorter at home and a week off!

I always chuck all my change in a pot - one and two pound coins included. Every once in a while this mounts up to quite a lot - often several hundred quid.Am I too tight?
A few years ago I tried to take a lot of cooins into my bank to be told that unless I was a business customer they no longer accepted large amounts of coins from the public.
So I use the Coinstar machine too. And it's quite fun!
