What are they actually doing at the moment, before they leave? Are they sitting at their desks, standng at their machines, doing nothing?

Assuming they are doing something, who is going to do it when they have left? Is what they are doing without value? Do they cost more that they are earning?

Or is it just that if a firm announces massive redundancies then its share price goes up?

My brother and one of my mates have both been made redundant in the last couple of weeks. In both cases they've been told they can leave straight away if they want but that they can stay on and do a few weeks' more work which is available to earn a bit of extra money if they want.

In my case, me it would fking seem.

6 people ousted a couple of weeks ago, one of whom I do half my 4 day shift with...

Now... to cover the shortfall on nights the other guy I do the other half of my shift with has asked to cover the first guys nights. Leaving me to now do both my dayshifts for the foreseeable future either a man down, or at weekends, on my todd. Lovely.

Still, at least I still have a job. So I'll stop whining.

Mine was a job at risk, I left and didnt need to return (2 month gardening leave), now i find they are hiring to fill a position which is very close to what i did and now they are offering £550-600 a day for someone to do what was my job, so it seems they havent had anyone to do my job for 2-3 months and i darent think what state the system is in if noone has touched it for that amount of time.

Several of my friends have been asked to do my job, all have refused cause they dont want to do the amount of work i had to put in and the st i had to put up with...

The company I worked for just wanted to increase their period of running without making a single sale (I think they call it a dry spell or something, but I forget the proper term they used).
At the time it was at 15 months and they wanted to increase it to about 18, even though they were still bringing in contracts.
As a result they axed a load of people who earned tuppence (i.e. me) and who did the core work of the business (i.e. me) ensuring the Directors all kept there wage, company cars and ALL their petrol paid for (business and social).
There are now a few people left in my department who can't handle the amount of work they have to get through, and who now have lost all respect for the company and the directors so are point blank refusing to work any harder.
And they told me that during my "consultation week" I didn't have to come into work, so I wrote a summary of all my projects and provided all my work to my team and f*cked off at about 11am.

if the £600 per day is more than you were on can't you reapply - after all you know it better than most and at £3k per week or over £12k per month its not bad money - thats assuming you weren't on more when you quit
I was on a third of that as a permanent member of staff (one of those with job security and all) everyone else was a contractor and no i cant apply as im banned from rejoining the company for 12-18 months even tho it would be such an easy money earner and i can do it in my sleep.

Not sure i would go back either.

Big re-org here and my position has been replaced. Essentially they replaced four peoples jobs with four doing a bit of each plus some other stuff.

Because my contract required they give me four months notice I'm here till the end of March even though "my" work is now being done by someone else in the office. So I spend my days surfing the net and on this forum - I think I've read ever topic in P&P and GG! bored out of my brain but I'm getting paid. Occaisionally I have to help with the new planner on bits they are not sure on. I was also asked to go to the Gloucester depot to help but I refused! nono
