Blackjack hit/stick strategy
Discussion
Off to a fancy dress party on saturday, with a casino/gambling theme and tables. I suspect I wont have time to do any proper reading before I go, but can anyone summarise the basic blackjack hit/stick strategy assuming the house will also be in on the game.
No idea how many decks will be in play, its possible that becuase this is a private party it might just be the one deck per table. Any experience/advice (and a reminder on how counting works) on a one deck game?
Many thanks in advance

the house is fooked if they have a 6 (ish) as they have to hit twice (discounting an ace) and thus they are likely to bust

Haha, you say that as if all someone needs to do is give you a quick reminder and you'll suddenly become Rain Man No idea how many decks will be in play, its possible that becuase this is a private party it might just be the one deck per table. Not quite as simple as what you hold - it's also what the dealer holds, so if you're on say 13 through 16 you'd stand against a dealers 2 through 6, and hit if the dealer is on 7 or above.
What you need is 'basic strategy'. This is a series of tables you have to memorise - not too difficult as there are quite a few memorable 'patterns'. Check out www.wizardofodds.com and hunt round the blackjack section - there are tables for the basic game in there somewhere.

Found it. Bloody hell, it looks more complicated than a woman! I didnt realise there was that much to it, thought counting could be taught in 5 minutes flat
You've got to remember the odds of the next card being a 10 are quite high, so stand/stick based on what the outcome of the dealer turning a 10 will be.
For example, assuming the dealer has to stand on 17, you've got 16 and they've got 7, odds are they'll get 17 and beat you so you may as well hit, whereas if you've got 18 I'd stand.
Likewise if they're on 12 - 16 and you've got say 14/15+ I'd stand as the odds on them turning a 10 and going bust are quite high.
That's the logic I employed at the last party I went to and cleaned the house out! It seems to work on the online free play too, but I don't gamble so couldn't tell you if it works in practise or not!
