Hi,

Just curious about how 'prepared' people are for the worst..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivalism

I was talking to a friend today who thought it was quite common to have a stock of a least 3 weeks drinking water, a petrol generator, a small mountain of tinned foods, and several wind up devises (radio / torches)

I dont have anything, other than a batteried powered torch for when my lights trip.

Anyone else beaned up to the eyeballs?

Not so much since starting Uni (student halls), but back when I was living in my own flat I would keep cupboards stocked to the max, had a crowbar within easy reach and a few minor precautions. Since watching the film Threads, though, I've since seen the folly of survivalism. You'd have to be a hyena, and frankly I like to think I'd die before I turned into that.

Don't forget the tin foil!

You'll need it for fashioning a hat.

Jesus, what's with all the zombie/end of the world "surviving" threads currently cropping up on PH these days?

Do you guys know something the rest of us don't?

We have been buying cheap chinese tat for so long they now have all our money!
So at some point we have got to go and get it back which could lead to a few years of living in caves.

"Only those mobile enough to scavenge survive...." Advice from Mad Max

I keep my car wstocked with some essentials, personally I can't wait until I'm roaming the derectlict roads going to war for a tank of "Guzaline"

I wouldn't say I'm well prepared at home at all.

Quite. Nothing to worry about, just media inspired hysteria.

Obama - the NRA are worried about his stance on weapons, hence stockpiling whilst they can. This was reported in the news just ahead of his inauguration. smile

I always keep a few weeks of food but that is only so i don't have to go to the shops.

A little generator (or a large UPS) might be nice though.

Ambush them on the way back. That way they do all the moving of the heavy TV for you.

Also -

If you have a great big stock of tinned food, people will want to nick it. Chances are enough of them will be bigger, stronger or better armed than you to succeed.

If on the other hand, all you stock is enough knowledge to be able to obtain your next meal wherever you are, not only does that make you a much less obvious target, but you'll also still be merrily subsisting long after the last tin of beans has been fought over, opened and consumed.
