i phone insurance question...

My current deal is up today and im thinking of getting an i phone, for those that have one, do you have to take out insurance with o2 for the phone, os can you go through someone else? £11 quid a month seems alot to me or is that about right?

I believe its £7.50 a month with 02 on the gold plan! Still to my IMO
