We are going for a long weekend to Bath and want to know a good hotel or guest house to book up, as a base. Needs to have good parking for the car and be quite central to the centre.
Any advice guys?

You'll need to book well in advance as accomodation typically books up early.

What's the budget? Central Bath varies from £50'ish to £250 a night!

Bath Spa Hotel is a relatively flat walk into the city centre along Great Pulteney Street. Good parking and facilities.

An idea of budget would be good.

Always recommend The Priory if budget is not a primary consideration.

Another vote for The Bath Spa Hotel - stayed there a few times and has always been good.

I vote for 'The Residence'

Right by the crescent, so a 10 minute walk from the centre. Very nice rooms, fantastic restaurant where the dining hall is open to the kitchen (so you watch the chefs cook your food!) and sensible pricing. I've stayed there with the girlfriend a few times.

They also have the best breakfast virtually anywhere.

Only problem (if you see it as that) is a fairly interesting minibar menu...

The Francis hotel is quite well priced and as central as you can get, not sure about their parking situation though. There is also the Hilton, which although being a concrete monstrosity has a huge car park next to it. There are also loads of good B+B's in Bath which may be worth a look.

Bath Spa is very nice but if you are going for a nice weekend and don't want to stretch to their prices you have lots of alternatives.

My wife and I stayed here http://www.dorianhouse.co.uk/index.php

Highly recomended and about a 10 minute walk from the centre. There's off street parking for 3-4 cars but it's a quiet street if you need to park on the road.

Be aware though that parking is not included in the quoted room rate. So add £30 on top if you are staying there.

Saco apartments are good value and nice quality. I believe they have a parking area.

This place is great. Be aware, though, that they valet park your car. That's very convenient but if you're uptight about the P&J being driven by anyone else...

You do not need a car in Bath if you stay centrally. Everything is walkable. Which is nice in it's own way.

Thanks guys. There are a few there, to check out.
Re the budget. There isn't really one.
Don't mind paying £250 a night, if it is worth it.

Royal Crescent, then. yes

Last time we stayed there it was fantastic. Hot August nights, superb dinner service. Wine. Heady stuff.

Too long ago. frown

These people were great when we went. We stayed in the Premier Apartment which I liked. Its like a posh hotel suite for the price of a room, as they have lounge and kitchen, with 2 bedrooms. You still go to the hotel (20 yds away) for breakfast.

If you are happy to drive 5-10 miles outside of Bath, there is a cool castle you can stay in. Clay Pigeon shooting in the grounds on Sunday Morning too if you wish. If interested, I'll try and dig out the name of it. Never mind, I found it

You may find this link useful: wotif.com

Royal Crescent is available for £195 per night, rather than £330

Sorry I haven't got a recommendation but I would avoid the Hilton. The rooms are OK (just OK) the service in the restaurant is poor and although it is in a good central location overnight car parking was £30!

The royal cresent is nice (I can see the back of it from here hehe), however, don't let them park your car if you take the lambo - I'm pretty sure they have a secure garage though.

P.S - if you take the lambo, can you take me for a spin please? tongue out
