Pakistan. Too hot to handle?
Discussion
On the news just now it seems another shooting has happened. The Sri Lankan Cricket Team has been shot at by gunmen. This following the Mumbai killing spree (someone I knew was killed in that incident), there seems a total lack of security at the moment.
The leaders say they are for the War on Terror but naff all happens. Why?

Theyre all too busy in the corner shops!!
Are you for real? What an ignorant comment.Edited to add: In terms of the wider story here I fear that that's pretty much game over for pakistan hosting any cricket in the near to medium term future. A few sides had already refused to travel there and I can see no way that anyone will be confident of travelling without coming under attack.
This is a major PR blow for the terrorists against the pakistani government and may well be the proverbial straw that means the government have to face the reality of the situation and ask for more help.

It's definitely getting a tad spicy out there.

I think that it could get very nasty in that country.
The President is against the terrrorists and maybe the government are to, well the majority of them, but, the President plays a difficult balancinhg act within his country because it is not so clear cut, and, as I understand it, the people within the cities are against and the rural/tribal people are for- the taliban's aim, in general.
This is compounded by the fact (According to Janes)that there are many Taliban supporters within the ISI which must make it very difficult to profess your support in public if you're in charge over there. I don't envy that guy!

I can only imagine that the PCB gave certain assurances to the SLCB that there would be tight security, and it appears that there was with the number of cops surrounding the SL Team bus, which obviopusly was not enough. However, pakistan is a real hotbed for Fundamentalists and Islamics, esp in the outlying regions, so things like this have a high prbability of happening.
Sad for cricket.
Just read: 2 Sl players have chest injuries and one has leg injuries.

Surely, a poor risk assessment by the Sri Lankan cricketing authorities?

Sri Lankan cricket has also been subject to teams refusing to tour due to terrorism and civil war. They knew more than anyone what the risks were, but they were brave enough to take the risk. It's terribly sad and appalling that this has happened and I hope that SL get back home safely.pp
I've been to Lahore recently, it's a great city, and I've no doubt that the security provided was massive, but it's pretty obvious that no amount of security can stop such events occurring, if the terrorists are determined enough and an attack is well planned enough.
There is a rumour going around that an Israeli offensive will be launched against Iran due to "intelligence" that implies pakistan (and *ahem* Russia) have been supplying Iran with nuclear technology or maybe even bombs.
This could all just be a ploy and a false flag or could be for real.
It would explain - reading between the lines - why America and Israel feel the need to control that specific region of the world; Afghanistan, soon to be Iran and having pakistan (world's most powerful Muslim country and 9th most powerful overall) fighting against India - which would explain why in the recent Mumbai attacks that "Al Queda" members were put up in the Chabad Lubavitch safehouse for a few days before the attack *ironic scoff*)

We all know it is a minority who are the bad guys (in our eyes). However, it is surprising how often you meet people with 'interesting' views. We now avoid one local taxi firm which is owned/run by a 'stereotypical' group. The last time we used them we got a lecture from the driver on how it is justified to kill American and British soldiers (anywhere, not just if they run through someone's garden in Helmland or whereever). We probably pay lots of benefits to his family who live locally too...
Dont worry chaps - its not the pakistani's, it must have been the Indians:-
"The Reuters news agency reports that pakistani state shipping minister Sardar Nabil Ahmed Gabol has accused India of conspiring to defame pakistan internationally. He is reported as saying that the gunmen responsible for the attack entered pakistan across the Indian border."

Mr Gabol, get back to your Shipping duties, you muppet.

As easy as it is for me to say it not being on the receiving end of an AK, one would have to say that it would be admitting defeat.Few things are worth dying for IMO, but the right to live a normal, civilised life and do the things you want to do without fear is one of them. Competitive sport is part of normal, civilised life
