Sex offender placed with young family

I'm suprised this hasn't already been mentioned on here.
A known sex offender was placed with a young family by social services, and then abused the 2 and 9 year olds their!
The social workers (alegedly) knew about his past and still placed him there. If this is the case surely this social worker needs locking up for the publics safety.

I find that pretty amazing to be hionest, I can't imagine what goes through a social workers head when they make a blatantly idiotic decisioon like that? Had he promised not to do it again or something?
My wife's sister is a social worker. She lives at home at 26, pays £250/month all in, and has just gone part time because 'She wants some time to do her own things.' She has no children, and has never had a boyfriend. She has never run her own household, or managed to save any serious amount of money for anything. She is in a lot of debt, despite earning over £25k/annum. She has had over 10 fault crashes, and has negated responsibility every time. She takes her other sisters (who still live at home) belongings without asking and returns them in poor condition, varying from a hair dryer to a car. She returned one car with a completely empty tank and a deep scratch on the bonnet whilst her car was in repair (which she doesn't service because 'its a waste of money'). She then picked her car up from the garage using her sisters car (despite being told no) and drove her own one back again, leaving her sisters car at the garage. She believes that families that have 4 children in close succession at a young age who then beg for government money are perfectly within their rights to do so as it isn't their fault. She also believes rich people using accountants to avoid paying tax are the cause of the credit crunch. ETC ETC
Her job as a social worker involves giving advice on home and money management, on relationship building and child care. How she even remotely qualifies for this is beyond me.
My wife, on the other hand, is a financial accountant, part qualified ACCA for a top company. We have a mortgage, a dog, and pay our own way. She applied for a job in social services before training in accountancy and was declined for having her own opinion.
This is a long winded explanation of why the social services is a load of tosh.

My experience of social workers suggests that this is the norm, not an exception, sadly.
I really hope someone goes to jail for doing that. It almost amounts to aiding and abetting! How the hell that kid was put anywhere near younger children is totally beyond me. OK, if the parents had been told, and were willing to accept him still, then that would be different matter, but to not tell them was plain negligent.

Of course the basic right not to be abused wasn't considered only the feelings of the 'offender'...Sad times to be honest. It should make anyone who's ever taken a position of responsibility - or else thought themselves worthy of a position of responsibiity - sit down and take a good, hard look at themselves and decide if they are suited to their chosen role.
If that happened to my family, I would take nothing less than the suicide of the person responsible for the placement as part-payment. I don't know what the remainder of the payment could possibly entail to make things better.
