Well folks, yesterday here in the East COast we were bombarded with a hefty snowfall and freezing temperatures. There are two things I hate doing more than anything, and I would gladly pay anything to have it handled by some neighborhood kids, but unfortunately no neighborhood kids offer anymore; Shoveling snow and raking/bagging leaves.

With that said, Monday is my only real day off and I awoke with a sense of calm at roughly 8:30am, staring outside my bedroom window with a warm cup of cocoa in hand, watching the busy freeway in the visible distance, watching all the cars late to work, watching the busy madness of another Monday morning rush hour in a foot of snow and ice all from the comfort of my home. Foolishly I smile with the prospect of a day of relaxation and rest, cocoa, some pussy from the girlfriend, a hot shower, a movie and some lunch - though not necessarily in that order, of course.

Foolishly I smiled... At 9:15 I get a phone call from my very close friend, C. C owns a landscaping company (My friend C is the one with the 04 Porsche 911 turbo and 4 other cars, his latest prospect is a Bentley GT) and he also does snow plowing for some of his customers on days like this. So he calles me up and apparantly he needs my help. "It will only be for a few hours, 3-4 at most and its not hard work. Mostly you will be sitting in the truck. I just need you to come with me to about 12 houses and clear their walk-ways while I plow their drive."

Famous last words.

"okay I say" My girlfriend looking at me, obviously pissed off that I am leaving her alone. "It will only be a few hours" I reassure her.

Famous last words.

Less than 20 minutes later he arrives in the front of my house and I hop in this behemoth truck. Thats when the pain begins.

Let me cut this short. We get to the houses which are over the nearest bridge and that means over the bridge = million dollar homes. Little did I know, or was told, but the houses whose walk-ways I would be shoveling are about the size of my drive way!! There I was, in 9 degree weather, howling wind, sweating and freezing at the same time, shoveling with a half broken shovel a foot of snow. Some of these walkways were seriously larger than my driveway!

All in all, at the end of the day, 6 hours later, I arrive home. Snot dripping down my upper lip, the bottom of my pants frozen solid with ice hanging off the sides, my feet drenched in snow, ice and sweat and my lips were now the feeling of wax! My girlfriend gave me an attitude and left as well. There I was, what was supposed to be a leisurely day off, ended up as a day of hard labor, something my office job has not prepared me for. I dont think I have done that much physical work in about 2 years, not even my work out routine was as grueling as this was.

No movies. No pussy. No relaxing at all from that point on. We were even out of cocoa FFS. All I was able to retrieve from day was a hot shower.

In the end, I got $150 bucks for it. Well worth 6 hours of work for sure. Would I do it again though? No way in hell!

Today, I am suffering, bad for it! My back feels like a gigantic knot, I cant bend to tie my shoes, my left knee is locked up and lips feel like they are from a dead person frown

Oh the humanity! Oh indeed

wink

You might want to look into the hourly rate for snow clearingbiggrin

I'm not saying you didn't do sorta ok for six hours work but wait and see what car your friend buys after this snowfall.

A small landscaping co will be billing thousands for that morning.
Mind you their morning starts at 3amsmile not 9+

Sub contract to townships five years ago was 250/hr/unit.

I know, but this was just a one time thing. I have to admit I didnt think it would be that much work.

And you definately helped out your friend as I'm sure he was short a couple of Mexicans and had overcommitted himself. (I hope that's not racist)
