Another thread got me thinking about people's experience of violence.

Many PHers advocate (online) zero tolerance vigilante-esque responses to problems of this nature.

Have any of you perpetrated or been the victims of a cold blooded, targetted assault?

If so, could you describe your experience; I think it would be sobering to read the realities of such scenarios?

Wouldn't people be monumentally stupid to admit to such things on a public forum?

I was waiting for a cab outside a row of houses in a tiny Sussex village and someone came out of one, walked up to me and asked me what I was doing.

Before I could answer, he'd headbutted me and I was out cold on the floor.

Took the police 9 months or so to find him - turned out he was up for sentencing the next day and went down.

Learnt an important lesson that day.

So when I was waiting for a cab outside Jill Dando's house a few years back...

I was attacked by 8 guys when I was 17.......I stood up well to it but I was quite badly damaged. Later the ringleader murdered someone.

I also have experience of putting someone in hospital who started a fight with me - I've regretted it every day since.

Both experiences changed my life.

Edited to say - I was also knocked unconcious by some bloke when I went to the aid of a lady that was being pinned to the wall by her throat - that one just came back to me

(can you tell I grew up in the North East? ;-) )

A slight tangent if i may. I worked for a private company, run by an ex royal marine.(mortgages not security!)Any way to cut a long story short i found this "menu"in his draw .Can't remember all the figures but i do remember £500 for a severe beating.Seems that him and his ex mates had a little part time business.Have to say he did have an aura of menace about him.

I've been beaten up. I've started fights too.
But not since my teens/very early 20s. (Which is about the same age group as the other thread).

No one died. I got a split lip, black eye that kind of thing.

Although people didn't carry knives around then.

(Can I just point out I only advocated a verbal rebuke on the other thread, not a good kickin)

Only if they included times, places, dates etc.

I was really looking for the experiences of reformed men; the type that might have got into trouble as young adults for instance.

I don't think that wishing to highlight the danger, terror and general unpleasantness of something that folks suggest, in all seriousness, on a regular basis makes me a nutter.

I think that makes me the opposite of a nutter.

Most people who practise or take an interest in martial arts do so to keep the peace, not shatter it.

As a student, my friends and I were held up with a (realistic) water pistol and gun shaped lighter.. lol

We weren't too bothered by it, being silly tipsy students, and it was only once we got refused entry to the nightclub we were going to (no ID as they nicked our wallets!), we went to the police. We expected a long night of form filling, but the police said "Jump in the car with us and we'll see if we can spot them". Well, we did, and had a blast being driven through red lights in an unmarked police car. Another car had caught them and arrested them by the time we got there. Efficient, and exciting!

The little toe-rags got their day in court for it, and as they seemed to be on some sort of crime spree at the time, went down for a few years if I recall correctly.

If you've already been convicted & served the punishment then that'd be ok.
