Dogs - A balanced diet
Discussion
Dogs tend to eat anything within reach, only problem is that some of these things are poisonous to them. chocolate will kill them over time, onions and grapes will do the same. raisans can poison them. large amounts of brocholli can cause harm. most good dog web sites have lists of foods that harm dogs. my 2 staffies love apple, carrot, rice and pasta. a good balanced diet keeps them in great shape.hth
knocked over half a pint in the kitchen the other night. lets just say i had help mopping up, he's fine.
but yeah everyone says avoid giving him chocolate, i've never looked into why but not worth the risk. + more for me
the occasional slurp isnt going to make a difference. just avoid too many soft foods, especially meats, mega dog breath and dental bills

I didn't know about grapes and raisans- my son is always feeding them to my Staffy or he collects them as they fall from the high-chair.phumy said:

Dogs are only really a balanced diet in Korea
And Vietnam
TBH our old collie was a four legged trash compacter, curry, bread, cheese, olives, fish, peas, fruit, salad, everything. eta Wasabi too!!!
Also had a tendancy to try and pinch guinness and bitter, but wouldn't go near lager!!
The current collie pup is prooving to be just as unfussy!!! current favourite dish, my right arm ..... raw!

Dogs are omnivores with a bias to meat but you shouldn't give them anything too different to what they could catch or find as if they were never domesticated. I wouldn't give him anything too sticky unless you are going to brush his teeth afterwards. Oh and nothing with chocolate in it, chemicals in chocolate can be fatal to dogs.
When we lived in the Philippines our dogs ate rice primarily. Surprised the hell out of me when I first saw it, but they love that stuff. I used to throw some eggs in the rice pot occasionally, or add a tin or two of sardines, or add dried corn, for variety. I also used to add curry powder some days, but I doubt they noticed, the stuff would go down the hatch so fast.
Went to the market one day, to buy some bones for them, nobody would believe I planned to give perfectly good bones to dogs!
