Insurance company bureaucracy
Discussion
Why do insurance companies insist on making everything so complicated. I did the usual comparison sites to get a quote for my Honda , a second car. Once I found a quote I was happy with I phoned them to make sure they had all the details. The situation as you may know with a second car is you cant use any NCB you already use elsewhere but they usually offer a good introductory discount based on your previous claim free driving on another policy. Bearing this in mind I agreed a price , paid , and waited for the forms to arrive. A couple of days later proposal arrived , all the other docs and a section about previous driving history. I signed everything highlighted on the proposal and as proof of driving experience ( 24 yrs driving experience never claimed once ) I enclosed my wifes certificate of insurance ( she has full NCB and me as named driver) and my commercial vehicle certificate of insurance ( I have full NCB on this ) and also a separate letter with my brokers telephone and fax number on along with written permission to contact them for confirmation of the NCB on both policies.
Today I received another form them saying I had not given sufficient information as proof of driving history.
After a long telephone conversation I am told I have to provide all the information I'd already sent on another form and sign it to confirm it's true.
WHY
It really pisses me off. I told them to type my name and address into the insurance companies database for claims to confirm I'm not on it , therefore never claimed , and she said this database does not exist. WTF
The other thing that would have made it worse is having to dial the 0845 number from my mobile (these numbers are still charged even if you have surplus minutes in your contract) but since I found the site below , you can look up the land line number to any company that only offers 0845 / 0870 etc numbers
