That's something a certain soon to be ex-resident of Bermondsey would say.

It's frankly amazing that people can actually believe this stuff. It makes them seem completely backward, almost like they're from a bygone age.

Yet they can still pull off 419 scams for millions. Strange.

recall a comment awhile back that the african continent is 500 years behind the west, but we gave them modern guns....

bit like the rumour that men infected with aids will become magically cured by having sex with virgins and now lots of children infected as they running out of virgins frown

But they do. Literally they do. They *want* to believe it as well. When I lived there, there was a great story about how a school teacher had been taking a boy home via the market to his mother, he turned around the boy was gone.
What was there, was a slightly soiled yam. Of course, this meant someone had performed JuJu, and the boy had been turned into a yam.

There was actually a headline in the national newspaper "This Day", which read "BOY TURNED INTO YAM TUBER". I forget the article verbatim, but basically it recounted the story, and ended with "Police believe the boy returned home himself, as he was found with his mother that evening. He has no recollection of being transformed into yam."
