I want to organise a clay piegeon shooting outing with friends.

Basically looking that is fairly good value and will last a few hours (in Hampshire area if anyone has any suggestions)

Most places seem to offer 25 shoots and say it will last between 1 and 2 hours. Does this tend to be 'enough' or are people usually left wanting more?

Any thoughts/experiences?

yeah, hold the gun against your shoulder and don't turn around to answer a question without cocking the gun.

as stated above becareful when firing a shotgun. if you dont hold it tight into your shoulder you will be saying hello to a 2 piece collar bone.

ive not broken mine but i have separated it, and its not a fun experience.

as for a break, they dont pin or cast it unless its severe, they usually reset it, put you in a sling and say dont do anything to it.

other than that shooting is good fun, nice and competative and if its something not done before scary, which adds to the excitement.

just throw clay pidgeon shooting into google. you will get lots of results, and then phone around for quotes. aks if they do an 'all you can shoot' offer for say 2 hours.

but remeber you may think that 1 or 2 hours wont be long, but youve gotta remember, your just standing in an open area for hours. the first 30 minutes will fly, but then it will drag and f you stay for too long it will become boring and you will regret it.

It depends on what sort of clay shooting you are going to try, there are lots of different variations!

Sporting clays, Typically a round of 30, normally divided into 3 stands of 10. As the name suggests the way the clays appear are meant to simulate Game shooting.

Skeet A round of 25, comprising Two fixed traps, and seven different firing positions (eight in the American version)

There are others, DTL, or Trap to name a couple.

All are great fun, the main thing is to be safe, a lot of grounds will let you have a round of sporting clays as a practice, followed by another round competion!

Have fun!

Why?

You can also do Laser clay shooting as well if people are worried about sore shoulders..

If a group of you are turning up for the first time, it is fairly likely that the organisation will use a cartridge with a light load, ie one that wont recoil much, so i wouldnt worry about that.

Give it a go, its a superb sport, i have been doing it for years.

No idea of anywhere in hampshire, but churchills in High Wycombe is head and shoulders above the rest.

Good luck, and enjoy.

Bisley is the obvoius one for you, just off the M3 and right at the Bracknell junction - 01483797017. They have Sporting and Skeet available and offer guided "first timer" shoots. Not the cheapest though. They have an interesting shoot called the Bisley 100 which when I last went was £30.00 a head with own guns and bangers.

West London Shooting School is one of the best, informal, fun and most formats available. Haven't got their contact details with me I'm afraid, but should be easy enough to Google. Just at the top of the M3.

Three Counties Shoot Ltd is also a lovely shoot, but I'm not sure if they do the sort of thing you are looking for. I have some numbers for the people that organise it (or used to anyway), but they are private and I do not wish to post them on here. PM me if you would like those though. Hook area.

Have fun, it's a great morning/afternoon out. HTH.

Erm, thats all guns cost.
A maximum of £300, for any gun ever made.

Funny that. The quartet of Purdeys, with an extra set of four grouse barrels, which Avalon were selling last year, were three hundred quid too. Amazing!

Been thinking the same thing, and also looked at a various options.

Last year, we did a Really wild day, which whilst not cheap, was one of the best days shooting Ive done.

I have also tried to get a package deal off Bisley, but they keep offering the same boring corporate style days.

Ideas welcome......

We went clay pigeon shooting at Bisley from work.
Very good and well organised - hardly anyone had shot before and the instructors were excellent.

And of course the 3 best shooters of the day were NOT those who had shot before biggrin - good fun as well.

I would say you'll want to be shooting between 50 - 60 clays each, more and novices will be tired and have sore shoulders, less and its over a bit quick.

Try and get about 20 clays as practice shoots where someone helps out with posture, stance and aiming, then maybe have a little pool shoot of about 50 clays each with a small incentive for the winner.
Two hours or slightly more depending on the size of the group and number of available guns.

Can't recommend anywhere as such though.

My brothers stag do involved clay pigeon shooting, also involved a bit of buggying ( no sniggers at the back please, I said BUGGYING lol) too, was great fun!

The conversation over breakfast the next day turned into a shoulder bruise competion!

Was at a farm in Gloucesteshire, a wee drive from Hampshire but was a great day out, event was held on a farm with some very good tutoring and great home cooked food provided all day!
