Set the scene - one of our ambulances was tanking up the motorway in the small hours of this morning with a critical patient from an RTA on board, followed by a police car.

The crew call on the radio to say there's a load of debris on the carriageway, and ask control to notify Highways Agency.

Seconds later, we get a call from Police control to say thay've just had a patrol car hit some debris on the motorway and the car has left the road scratchchinyikes

Seconds after that, a 999 call from an HGV driver reporting a car which has hit the central reservation because it had to take evasive action to avoid aforementioned police car yikes

The crew arrive at hospital and after handing over the patient, phone to ask where the police patrol is, because they were right behind them on the motorway!

Sometimes, the truth is stranger than fiction...

No serious injuries, except the original patient on the ambulance.

Ouch! I hope there was no-one hurt (other than the copper's pride, that is...)?

As an aside, shlepping up the M6 last weekend we saw a sign saying "queue, slow down" on the matrix board. Shortly afterwards crested the hill a mile before J3A/4 Northbound, saw no queue at all. Did see some debris in the road which everyone was swerving to avoid, however.

Now either that matrix board had been left up for ages unchanged, or someone had put "queue" up instead of "debris". Am I alone in thinking that "debris in road, slow down" would have had more effect than "queue", which most people now treat as the boy who cried wolf...
