Time Team - have they ever found anything...?!??!
Discussion
It's Saturday evening, and I'm sat with the laptop and giving the telly a cursory glance.
I've ended up with Time Team on... and whenever I've caught any part of this programme they seem to be getting over excited about the potential Roman villa they might find... and merely turn up a few crappy bits of rock they claim are from a random period in history and are of major historical significance
So learned PHers... have they ever found anything of any real value?(financial or historical)
TIA, bored of the Midlands.

They always find a series of small walls.

They once excavated a Spitfire, mildly interesting.
I have the arbitary time limit though, there is absolutely no pint to the 3 day limit. Idiotic.
Harry Hill sums it up well:

They find something every time, because the sites they are digging are unexplained or new. They dig, find out what's there and can find out how old it is, what was there often lots of dating evidence. Considering all of the digs are on places that have long since been abandoned and all of the possessions taken away by their original owners the fact they find anything is remarkable.
They have found countless coins and pottery evidence sometimes suggesting occupation at a time when it had never previously been logged. Roman mosiacs, countless villas, rare Roman texts on stone, a tomb in York because of it's quality believe to be that of the only Emperor to die in the UK and a unique to the UK temple complex rare for even mainland Europe. They have mapped and planned out King Alfred's settlement and found one of the largest Roman Villa complexes in the UK, the Time Team Live Turkdean dig and even helped out in Maryland USA to find the very first city founded by English colonist in 1634.
They also found and mapped out Matthew Boulton's factory and Wedgwoods first factory.
They never know what they will find so each show is a gamble, but something always happens. Inlcuding the famous fake cracking episode -

Mrs Podie here..

I think it's a bit like self-flagellation for him.

Mrs Skeggy watches it so it's on the tv and sometimes I watch the odd few minutes.
That's the irony - it was Pod that put the bloody programme on!! I suffered about 20 minutes of him swearing at the telly (punctuated by me saying 'turn it over then') before he decided to bring his rant here
I think it's a bit like self-flagellation for him.

If there was anything worthwhile to be found i doubt English Heritage would let those muppets anywhere near !!
Well they were allowed free reign over a few digs in York. Found quite a few interesting artefacts and a road that was unknown of. My ex was a volunteer with them for the dig.sadako said:
One of their digs did turn up a huge villa with mosaics on the floor.
yes I remember that one... not that I watch it religious. ETA: did they have limited time with that one because it was somewhere where they'd just built a dam and wanted to fill the valley up?
