A very good reason not to give to 'Comic Relief'
Discussion
So you're proposing we all dont give to Comic Relief based on one persons not entirely unbiased opinion on a forum somewhere?
I'd say lots of stuff gets recorded for Comic Relief then not used - they only have a certain amount of time on the night.
I'm not seeing the problem?

Emma Freud didn't like being associated with bikers, so persuaded her co-presenters that it should be dropped from the show.
Also, thats not what was put in the original post - the o/p said Emma Freud said that Comic Relief shouldnt affiliate itself with bikers, and the others agreed.Nobody You Know said:
Quite sad really that knobheads like this vent there spleen and shoulder chips at the publically funded BBC and even worse that nobody challenges them.
Cretins.
Glad I stopped paying my TV licence.
They are putting together a nights entertainment designed to raise the most money possible for charity. Who are we to question what they, as experts, decide as the running order for that?Cretins.
Glad I stopped paying my TV licence.

The problem is that the justification for not showing it isn't 'sorry, but we just have too much material and yours didn't make the final cut', but 'we don't want to be associated with bikers'.
Or so the O/P of that post is telling you? I'm surprised you're taking as fact one persons opinion on the situation, then even mis quoting the story to make it inflamatory and suggesting using as it a reason not to give to the charity?
On the night, would a slot about bikers possibly make people change channel? If only 1% did, then that might be 100,000 people who stop watching and hence, potentially, dont give.

Actually, its worse than that, you're misquoting a reference by a poster on another forum of an extract from another site of an event that may or may not have happened several years ago, and using it as a reason not to give to a charity?Edited by pgilc1 on Sunday 8th March 12:02
Nice.

I find it more likely that whatever was shot didn't work for whatever reason. I very much doubt that the BBC would be worried about screening a VT about motorcyclists.
Maybe it was just a crap piece shot on a Z1 by an inexperienced director, and the producer decided to ditch it.

I'm allowed to choose which charities I will support.
It's just that Comic Relief have now given me a reason to give money to someone else without feeling any guilt about it.
Why are you being so deliberately argumentative about this? - do big scary bikers intimidate you?
Yes you are allowed to chose which charities you support, BUT misquoting a biased post and then proposing it as 'A very good reason not to give to Comic Relief' doesnt seem terribly intelligent? It's just that Comic Relief have now given me a reason to give money to someone else without feeling any guilt about it.

I'm not being deliberately argurmentative, just stunned you posted it in the first place.

Suppose it gives me a legitimate reason to tell the bucket shakers to politely go forth and fornicate, if nothing else.
Do what I do and politely tell the "bucket shakers" that shaking the tin or bucket is actually illegal, it's considered begging. Not alot of people know that............

Honestly Steve you become more bonkers by the day. It's just that Comic Relief have now given me a reason to give money to someone else without feeling any guilt about it.

I will be giving and would require something bordering realistic evidence to even reconsider my choice.

You do realise that 'Rick', who posted the original post on the link is chairman of the NABD, don't you?
So I think we can say that it is, on balance of probabilities, true? - I can't see it making for very good publicity if it's made up.
So 'Rick' as chairman of the NABD perhaps has a biased opinion on bikers? No?So I think we can say that it is, on balance of probabilities, true? - I can't see it making for very good publicity if it's made up.
Even if it is true, whats your point? Charity doesnt use biker VT on Comic Relief night? So?

They're a worthy cause, and a UK charity.
Car drivers with a disability get Motability funding - the NABD is helping to provide the same level of support for disabled bikers.
I'm sure if it had been the Afro-Indian association for Lesbian and Gay Transgendered Disabled Bikers, they'd have no issue with showing it..... with the blessing of Ms Freud, too.
Dont give if you dont want to - just dont misquote a biased report of an event that may or may not have happened several years ago as a reason for not supporting Comic Relief and not expect people to point that out.

As I biker and car driver I will not take much notice of one stupid persons thoughts on red nose day or how they feel about bikers.
it's her choice to feel this way and mine to think she's a daft bint. end of story and not worth giving it a second though
I like to support anyone in need, be them bikers, disabled, black/white etc...
