I fit Smiths.
Any particular reason? I was told to go for Myson or Smiths on a "they are similarly excellent" basis but I'm really worried about the fan noise!
To the two other posters - are either of you particularly sensitive about noises? The bathroom extractor fans piss me off, whole house pump pisses me off, the extractor hood fan pisses me off... and yet visitors reckon they are hardly audible. I really don't like fan / pump noises so a tad nervous about adding one of these

I've always found Smiths to remain quiet for a much longer period. Myson's tend to get noisier more quickly, but I am taking about 10 years! Remember it's a motor which is operating in a really dusty environment, have you ever looked behind a kitchen plinth!! They do get noisy, but nothing like as noisy as an extractor fan!!
Worth considering the Smiths then! Are the motors reasonably easy to service - can you take them out without disconnecting the plumbing? Also, daft question time - how are they wired in and what controls the fan run times? Are they wired to the C/H control unit or just stand alone stats / switches that work off the water temp / flow / room temp?
Certain models come with flexi hoses which allow the unit to be pulled forwards for servicing.
Generally they are permanently live, but operated by a flow temperature sensor so the fan only fires when the heating is on. They also have the ability to have the fan switched on in summer just to shift the air about.
