As a semi-fat bloke who just did 2000m in 7:24 on the rowing machine in the gym, what time would I need to reach to join the 2012 rowing squad...? wink

Sub-6 would be enough for a University team (at least that's what the good guys at my Uni were doing and some of them have gone on to Olympic gold). hehe

I used to be able to do ~ 6:10, and was about 20 seconds off the times the GB squad were recording.

I think this has been done before. Conclusion was that any "athletic" sport - Track and field, swimming, cycling, rowing etc - was highly unlikely to allow you time to start full training now and get anything like good enough for Olympic trial level for 2012.
Something like archery or shooting may give you half a chance if you had an aptitiude for it.

I can't remember what times my ex used to do ergo's in.

But I know after a night out on the lash she would be up early to do a 5km run, then ergo's. She was team GB for rowing.

I believe it is necessary to be able to down a pint in one go as well.
