My dogs just eaten a large galaxy bar. Any vets here?
Discussion
My dogs been a little weird tonight, he wont eat his dinner which is very odd for him and he has just been sitting in the dark bedroom.
Now i know why, he has eaten one of those huge galaxy chocolate bars, i left it on the table last night and he got it some time today.
He is acting okay, but i,m worried, i know it can kill dogs, he has eaten (stolen) quite large amounts in the past and been ok but this is pretty much the whole bar.
Of course i dont mind taking him to the vets but i begrudge doing so as to cut a long story short basically i dont trust them,of course i cant ask for advice as like in the past i just get 'oh bring him down' and walk away with a bill for several hundred.
Hes a male staffordshire bull terrier and from past experiences quite resiliant to most things (he once stole a box of 8 crispy creme donuts and was a little weezy but fine the next day, but looked visibly much fatter
)
Bloody theiving dogs hey? nothings safe around here, totally my fault!

He does seem ok. I think i,ll keep an eye on him over the next few hours.
I bet he thought he won the lottery when he stole that chocolate, i bet he feels hes f
king lost it all now though
He will bark will he?

I think you are about to get as much warning as he does.....
Well as a thieving vet, you can have my advice for free. Chocolate is variably toxic to dogs, and a 200g bar of milk chocolate may be less than is needed to introduce toxic symptoms, but maybe not. It is usually about 150g of dark chocolate for a medium sized dog that is thought to be the start of the harmful levels. The main signs you should look for to start with, would be drooling saliva and abdominal pain, even vomitting. If your dog shows any of these signs then it is time to pay my horrible profession some money for your mistake of leaving chocolate around. If the dog is only mildly uncomfortable, then it is much harder to predict whether the dog will need any supportive help. My labradors have occasionally thieved such amounts of chocolate, milk not plain dark chocolate [which is the worse of the two] and have never showed any ill-effects.

Ok i understand, i,m ready for the s

I have been a little lax recently with the food i must admit, everything needs to be hidden from him, hes not the type to steal from your plate but when hes here alone i suspect he gets bored and goes on the hunt

I,ll never forgot one week he stole the crispy creme donuts (which were placed high enough for him to not get but he still got them) a whole bag of carrots (about 15iirc off the kitchen worktop) and i think a day or two later had about half a large galaxy.
That week he looked like a baloon
