Its not surveillance, it was to demonstrate the technology. The technology has been around for a while but its getting better and better and more accessible. I was reading that you can now get commercially available 420megapixel cameras now for these types of thing. Bloody brilliant and it really captures the moment.

If I remember in this case, it was a gigapixel camera - though you can tell that its not perfect. The exposure time is still slow and hence its not a perfect picture. Getting better though.

Not really,

There's a big difference between government and authoritarian surveillance like too many CCTV cameras and a high-resolution photo (that is actually a lot of smaller photos stitched together) that a bunch of photographers contributed to.

Look at the base of the tower on the right. By the railings... Half a man...

While it looks great and the tech is probably very clever, it is just lots of photos linked together.

No it isn't it is lots of pictures stuck together.
