My thoughts exactly - are we suddenly discounting the years of terrorism that we have endured due to the IRA??? WTF is going on?? Is it only Terrorism when USA say so or worse still when it involves them??

I get the train from Oxford road Manchester everyday, and the station has had a heavy police presence for the past week (not transport police but Man Met plod). Has anyone else noticed this at other stations? Do they know something we don't, or is it precautionary? Can't see it stopping me from traveling but it is a bit of a worry when there are 6 or 8 BiB at a station as small as Oxford road

Just think of the damage the fire they had a couple of years ago caused. A lorry load of semtex would bring the whole thing down.

Think Nuclear......Sellafield would be a prime target, just think of what all that sh1t would do in the Irish Sea.......Not just the UK, but Ireland too !!
I honestly can't see the point in the debate. If we are to let terrorists dictate our actions, beyond due caution, then we have let them win.
We've been hit before, we'll be hit again. If the Madrid bombing is Al-Qaeda then, in some respects, we need worry slightly less than before IMO. Devastating and tragic though it was this is not the kind of attack against which there is no defence, nor is it wildly outside the scale or nature of anything we have seen in the past.

Yes. Or rather, it's only worth considering when the terrorists are not white. The sense of relief when the Spanish government announced that ETA had carried out the attack (wrongly, it seems) was palpable and, IMO, sickening.

You've obviously not been near a nuclear installation then. I get to a couple of places legitimately, with my job: I have security clearance, family were vetted, the full bit. Yet when I turn up they treat me like a criminal, and I'm there for their benefit. Don't even look sideways at the security crew. In fact, you'd be surprised at exactly who ARE the security crew. I've seen innocuous-looking vans with guns in them that would put a smile on Schwarzenegger's face.
A couple of places have armed Police at the gates: they are only there for show. The real firepower is watching you, and you won't know it. It would be easier to get a shag with the Queen than light a fart in Sellafield (for example).
