Your favourite place in the UK - hidden gems...

It is often easy to forget what a beautiful place the British Isles is.

I love Lyme Regis because of it's charm and I like geology and palaeontology.

What are your favourite places, or "hidden gems"?

Hardly a hidden gem but Stow In The Wold appears to be the world heritage home of the word 'pleasant'

Lovely and Burford for that matter.

Shell Island near Harlech (NW.Wales) is epic.

Oulton Park is another wonderful place.

Presteigne in Wales. (Bordering England) Beautiful, picturesque village with good memories.

Betswy Coed (sp?) and Snowdonia in general... Love that area...

Portpatrick on the south western coast of Scotland. It was the setting for BBC's 2000 Acres of Sky and is a village lost in time.

Fantastic scenery, friendly folk and a great place for a week's golf too

Is that the one just up a bit from the nudie beach? If its the place I'm thinking of, my missus cut the sole of her foot open on a rusty can there. Never heard the end of it!

I spent two days in Bigbury on Sea this summer, specifically Burgh Island and the place was beautiful.

Have to agree, its kind of a step back to '50s rural england with modern cars. Very relaxing, despite the crowds in the summer.

Also has some nice roads on the way

I used to go there for my hooning drives. The roads around Snowdonia are fantastic, and then go to Betsw y Coed for a bite to eat, and a wander down by the river. Good thing is the drive can take in Snowdonia, then off to Caenaerfon, then off to Conwy, and back to betsw y coed... Great days!!

Ah yes! Wasn't that the place where Agatha Christie went to write Evil Under the Sun or something similar?

Not been there for some years. Do they still have that "Motorised Portakbin on stilts" for transfers at high water?

They did but it wasn't used as the tide was low.

They've recently started restoring the Mermaid Cove with a deck area for sunbathing. A great place to laze around and unwind.

Scilly Isles are great as well.

eglingham castle in northumberland, dunstanburgh castle, robin hoods bay, druridge bay, all in northumberland...all lovely places to relax

For people watching i love Camden,there is so much to do around the markets and you come into contact with so many different types of people,you can also get lunch for a couple of quid.

Getting away from it all i sometimes drive down to the river itchen between Winchester and Eastleigh,park at a place called Allbrook and walk the river to Bishopstoke,if you wish you can carry on down to Southampton, www.hants.gov.uk/itchen/present/twy.html

Another place i love is the New Forest with all its history and cute little villages and walking routes,the first Royal Naval battleships were allegedly built there using the oaks from the forest,i keep meaning to go down there to trace where the D-Day landing force stayed on the lead up to the invasion.
