only one wiper working

Can anyone throw some light on the above?

my sons just rang, wife driving and only one wiper coming on?
of course you only find out in the rain

I would bet: Motor directly attached to the working wiper and the linkage to the other wiper has failed in some fashion.

Happened to my Vectra and I'll bet most cars have a similar setup.
