Hi, I have a 9-5 estate with standard CD player in the head unit.
I do loads of commuting and I'm fed up with chaning the CDs all the time.

I have 3 DVD Rs with my entire music collection copied onto them and I want my Saab head unit to be MP3 compatible without having to buy a portable MP3 player etc.

Can anyone suggest where to go for a conversion to a modern CD player that plays MP3 tracks and roughly how much they think it might be????

Thanks for your help,
Rupert
P.S
Good to see a Saab forum at last!!

Tricky one. I don't know the 9-5 system intimately, but the og9-3 had a very clever security system that meant it was impossible to alter things too much - I would say an aux in would be almost impossible.

The way I see it you have a few of options :

1. get a proper Saab autochanger and burn yourself a lot of CDs. Expensive.

2. buy an MP3 single slot CD player and fit that. Cheapest solution and efficient, but messes up the look of the dash.

3. buy an MP3 jukebox with one of those little FM transmitters so you can listen through the radio. Not great quality though.

IMHO it's about time that car manufacturers caught up with this sort of thing, or at least offered you an aux in - maybe you have one? Check, but don't hold your breath.

On my c900 I have a cheap Sony mp3 stereo. It's OK, but annoyingly the aux in is controlled by some crappy proprietary Sony serial bus thing so I can't just plug in an mp3 jukebox

Just re-reading, I guess if you're happy with the idea of a single slot aftermarket unit, then Saab dealers will be able to flog you the plastic dash tray to fill the gap. In fact, I just found it on partsforsaabs, but it's over 50 quid!

There are some nice looking stereos (not too flashy) that should match the style - I looked at Blaupunkt ones, wish I'd gone for one now MP3 single slot units start at around 100 quid or so.

Don't sell the old one though, you'll want to stick it back in when you flog the car (and don't forget they need to be "divorced" from the car by a Tech-2 computer at a dealer before they can be "married" to another car.
