Hi there - wonder if you can help me out with a ballpark figure for the following - which I have sitting on my driveway that a friend of mine working overseas wants to sell:

900 SE Auto cabriolet
97,000 miles
"P" reg (1997?)
dark blue with cream leather
6-disc CD changer
alloys
no tax
few months Mot left
BUT: it's got an issue with the "check gearbox" and "SRS" lights which keep appearing.

My friend just wants to sell it ASAP and has a quote from South East Saab to have the work done at £260+vat to eliminiate the dash lights issue.

He's not going to have the work done prior to selling it (which in my view makes it pretty unsaleable, but that's not my decision to make).

In all other respects it's pretty tidy and drives well and has no major paintwork blemishes (only the usual few little scratches). The hood is in good condition and works as it should.

So - what do you think would be a fair price to stick this baby up for as a starting point?

Aw, I'm no good with these "what's it worth?" questions.

I agree with you it would be a good idea to get the work done - the verts hold their value well, but chances are somebody will want a bargain if they are looking at an imperfect example...

2.3 n/a is a nice motor, often overlooked, and I reckon it would suit the vert nicely. Nice colour too, good spec.

A quick look on autotrader would suggest 4-4.5k as a good starting point, although you might have to backpedal on the pricewith the problems.

Personally I would get the problems fixed and price it at 4,500 or so? But then it just took me 7 months to sell my last car!

Good time of year to sell, but just looking at my local autotrader results throw up 4 or 5 similar ones at that price...

thanks for that. I did check Autotrader too and saw a few on there.

It is a nice car and it seems a shame to not have the work done and potentially lose a lot more on it than the work costs to do.

I'm going to point my pal at this thread anyway in an attempt to make him see sense!

and obviously if you come across anyone looking for such an example - point 'em my way!

thanks again.
