My manual aero 9-5 is stage 1. It's brutal mid range, making overtaking effortless.

Like yourself I find it a little sluggish at low revs, but once the revs build the torque curve is very flat on the stage 1 so it pulls hard from about 2.5k rpm and is then relentless.
