I've booked in to test drive a couple of cars over the weekend and will be trading in my own car as part of the upgrade,a couple of questions to seasoned PHers.

1. how insulting will the dealer be regarding my trade in?
2. What should I be looking for as i have a budget of 25k,want a convertible again but have been happy with my lpt performance how HOT is the aero?

my car is a 1999(T) lpt se spec cosmic blue/blue hood sand full leather interior 56000 fsh in good all round condition
Thanks in anticipation

simon

ps forgot to mention how true it is that once you have a saab you dont want to leave them!

Hi Siwil,

Don't really know much about the price of new 9-3ss convertibles. Would guess your current car will get a trade in of 7-8k? A quick shufti at Autotrader shows T reg LPT SE convertibles with 60k up at 8k (trade), so I reckon a dealer will offer you 6,500, hopefully you can push them up a bit. Might be a good time to sell privately? I'm notoriously bad on working out values though so get some proper advice!

Had a quick look and an 04 plate Aero convertible is well within budget you lucky person I think they're quite quick, 210bhp? Crying out for a Viggen version though, I think

Good and bad, dealer sold car I wanted to test drive but is getting another one in for me this week.
On the plus(?) side they offered me 8K for mine against a used car or 10k against a new one.

I need to get the calculator working and 147mph 0-60 7.7 in the aero is looking very attractive

Cool! I think that's a good price on your current car, but check Glass' Guide or something in case I'm way off base!

Mmm, Aero ragtop in black!

very disappointed with local dealer, its now friday and have been waiting since monday for a call re test drive etc, their loss i;m going to drive for 1/2 hr to go to another one. I'm in a sales orientated job and would not leave a lead that long

That's a bit poor, I don't blame you. You'd think when you're trying to spend 25k the least they could do would be to call you back!

You might want to check out the 9-3ss forums on www.saabcentral.com and www.saabscene.co.uk to see what dealers others recommend.

Martin.

Hi,

ongoing info, new dealer much more helpful and eager, he intimated that his dealer may have some pre reg 2.0t vectors later this month which would come in on budget i'm keeping my options open. Mrs wanted to go to Audi dealer so off we went I would have thought someone wanting to spend 25k would be a nice customer to have NOOOOOO I might as well have been a lepper!! and how slow are they Definately cant afford an s4 47k! which is just about quicker than an aero.

Saab it will definately be

You know it makes sense!

I find modern Audis quite soulless. It would have to be a a proper Ur Quattro or maybe an RS2!

I do rather like the 9-3ss Aero though!

Test drove a black aero today i'm in love!!!

So much power and so little scuttle shake kids were fine in the back (allready knew they would be) but seatbelts much easier than in current car.

now have the car I want in mind has to be black with parchment sport leather aero,

Cant wait to come back from holiday to track one down!

It could be a long fortnight or so

we went for a 9-5 aero estate - preregistered with 11 miles on the clock. We did more on the test run !

Very happy with the car. Comfortable, good safety rating, fast when moving, smart, and good a good deal on the price.

Best moment was joinging a duel Carriage way on a slip road and following a shaphire cossi big boyexhaust tinted windows and the drivers eyes wide in disbelieve watching me in a family estate keep pace with him from about 30 to about 95mph, and the puffs of smoke when he changed gear. fantastic car.

Try Cromwells in S.E London, a little out of your way, but always very good. A cross between full dealer snobishness & back street boys.

FYI - my first car was a Saab & have hankered for 20+years until I got 1 again

Si - sounds excellent!

I have found Cromwell Saab a bit on the pricey side, and have heard mixed stories on their service - your mileage may vary, of course.

Drop me a line if you want any good personal recommendations on independants, etc.

Simon

good choice on the 93 Aero, i have been running one from new Jan 04, done 42k miles, its great, not one problem, had BMW MERC LEXUS previously and like the 93 out of the lot of them, its different from the masses, its understated, its looks ace, lots of power, ok 0-60 in 7 secs ish isnt that fast but once the turbo is on sung and your flying thru them gears, 30-100 mph onwards its awesome and thats where you can surprise alot of quick cars, black does look good too. enjoy

Simon,

My wife and I picked up our 93 Aero convertible two weeks ago. We have covered about 1000 blissful miles. Love the sound of the turbo (which is about the only perceptible sound). We got a 7% discount on the list price and also a good deal on our 206cc. Insist on the comfort pack (remote opening hood...) and the '2.7' stereo upgrade, which makes the dash look a lot more plush (in my opinion).

Unfortunately, I can't recommend a dealer that is close to you as we are from the land of concrete cows and roundabouts.

Enjoy.
