I've just spent the day under my S1 growing increasing frustrated/angry/desparate as I struggled to remove the old exhaust. Ended up having to cut the end of the inlet pipe off. Took me bloody ages but got it out in the end. Then, in the fading daylight, I had a quick attempt at getting the new one in. Well, I guess my IQ isn't quite high enough to solve the puzzle of how to fit large exhaust into small space. I reckon there must be a complex sequence of tilts, rotations, and sideways movements involved. Either that or some magic words I know not.

Have you tried taking the CAT off as well, supposed to give a bit more room for manouvre. Assuming you can get the damn thing off in the first place

Cheers,

This was a useful post for me. I am in the market for a new exhaust and was going to fit it myself but now I think ill pay someone else to wrestle with it. Incidently which one did you go for? Im undecided at the moment but I definatly need something deep and throaty

There is only 1 choice. Eliseparts (assuming it is for an S1). Beautifully made and stainless it sounds the absolute nuts. It's loud though so leave the Cat in or your neighbours will lynch you from the nearest lamppost

You've met my neighbours then

Its about £300 isnt it? In your opinion would it be excessive for everyday use?

If you leave the cat in it's perfect. Not too loud when you are going easy and it doesnt drone at motorway speeds.

Makes the car sound as it should.

Responding to B19GRR's post, yes I did take the cat out; now I can't remember which way round it goes.

No idea if it actually matters to be honest. Is the inside of one end sootier than the other? Might give you a clue.

erm...the cat can only go one way round if you look carefully at the flanges.

from the sound of your post you;re replacing it with another standard one??

fitting a sports exhaust in there is usually very straightforward.
